It’s the age of the millennial, and in few industries is this quite as clear as it is in weddings! Whilst weddings are certainly not going out of style, the ways in which people celebrate their love is definitely changing. And that’s all because of millennials. Brisbane Wedding Photo
The brides and grooms of today are shunning tradition, opting to do things their way instead. We’re seeing less and less formal bridal parties, traditional entrance music and typical two-week honeymoons. These days, millennial couples are celebrating in a more personal, natural, laid-back way. Here are some of the new millennial wedding trends to look out for.
Gender-Fluid Wedding Roles
If you’re a girl, it doesn’t necessarily follow that your best friends all are too. And it’s the same with guys. Modern weddings recognise this fact, meaning you can forget all about the traditional male and female wedding roles.
If you’re a girl and your best friend happens to be a guy, why not make them the Man of Honor? The same applies to men who have an important bond with a female friend. The idea of a gender-specific wedding party is becoming more and more outdated; it simply doesn’t reflect typical millennial friendships.

The White Dress Gets an Update
White dresses have been an absolute wedding must-have since the reign of Queen Victoria. It’s not surprising that some brides have started to think twice about the idea of wearing white to their wedding.
More and more millennial brides are choosing white dresses with accent colours, or even completely different hues for their bridal gowns. From patterns and detailing to stand-out luxe colours, bridal gowns are getting a whole new look. We can’t wait to see what some of this year’s brides will be wearing!
Music Becomes Personal
There are some classical compositions which have always been a ‘must’ for weddings. However, today’s couples are beginning to think again about wedding music, and opt for something which reflects them a little better.
Many couples have songs which are particularly special to them, taking them back to that perfect moment when they fell in love, or reminding them of important milestones like their first date, or first vacation together. If there’s a special song that you both love, why not incorporate it into your ceremony, or even walk down the aisle to it?

A New Emphasis on Local Suppliers
Millennial couples are increasingly searching out local suppliers for their wedding celebrations, choosing locally-sourced food, flowers and entertainment wherever possible. This new emphasis on all things local is a great way to personalise your wedding, bringing elements of your chosen wedding venue back into the heart of the day wherever you can.
At a recent wedding, the happy couple provided all their guests with a lovely welcome pack filled with locally-sourced goodies. It was a beautiful, personal touch which really showed how much they cared. And it went down very well with their guests, too!
The New Honeymoon
There’s no denying the fact that the traditional, two-week honeymoon straight after the wedding is on its way out. Lately, we’re seeing more and more millennial couples opt for a mini moon after their wedding, choosing to celebrate properly with a no expenses spared honeymoon a few months, or even a year, after the wedding itself.
There are many reasons why couples are choosing to do this, ranging from the expense of the honeymoon to their desire to wait until the best possible time of year to visit their chosen honeymoon destination. Often, couples will want to stick around to spend time with friends and family who have travelled a long way to be with them on their special day, too.
